Movie: The Answer Man
I saw it on: September 2, 2009
Cast: Jeff Daniels, Lauren Graham, Lou Taylor Pucci, Olivia Thirlby, Kat Dennings, Tony Hale
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Drama
Synopsis: Arlen Faber (Jeff Daniels) is the reclusive author of “Me and God”. The book recounts Arlen’s conversations with God and has had a profound impact on millions of readers for two decades. Unfortunately, Arlen wants nothing to do with his fans – or with anybody for that matter. While everyone believes he has all the answers, Arlen has no clue and believers himself to be fraud. When his back goes out, Arlen is forced to crawl to a chiropractor – Elizabeth (Lauren Graham). Arlen falls for Elizabeth and her young son. The movie follows Arlen’s struggle to forge a relationship with Elizabeth and at the same time to redeem his status as the Answer Man.
My two cents: An OK movie that occasionally has some really funny moments. I thought the worship status of the author was a little overdone. I also thought the author was just too much of an SOB. I had hoped Lauren Graham would rescue the movie (I am a big Gilmroe fan) – but she let me down, although it was nice to see her.
