Movie: A Perfect Getaway
I saw it on: August 9, 2009
Cast: Timothy Olyphant, Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich, Kiele Sanchez, Marley Shelton
Genres: Thriller, Drama
Rating: R
Synopsis: Cliff and Cydney (Steve Zahn and Milla Jovovich) are a young couple celebrating their honeymoon in Hawaii. They are doing a backpacking trek to a remote beach. The hiking is a lot tougher than they anticipated – and Cliff is not exactly an experience outdoorsman. Then they meet some hikers who tell them they had just heard about a couple who had committed some murders in Honolulu and were still at large. That gets them to worrying. Cliff and Cydney run into another couple (Timothy Olyphant and Kiele Sanchez) and team up with them for the remainder of the trek to the beach. When both couples start suspecting the other of being the murders, the tension starts building. Naturally, cell phone reception is very spotty – so no one can ever get more info on the murders. Everything builds to a pretty intense encounter at the end.
My two cents: I am a big Steve Zahn, so I went in expecting to like the movie – and I was not disappointed. There was plenty of action, lots of misdirection and more than a few tense encounters. It was fun to see everyone suspecting everyone else. I thought they built very nicely to a great climactic ending that kept me on the edge of my seat for quite a while – and with a pretty good twist at the end.
