Big Fan

Movie: Big Fan
I saw it on: September 20, 2009
Cast: Patton Oswalt, Kevin Corrigan, Marcia Jean Kurtz, Michael Rapaport, Matt Servitto
Genre: Drama
Synopsis: Paul (Patton Oswalt) is 35 years old, lives with his mother and is happy in his “career” as a parking garage attendant.  He is also a fanatical New York Giants fan.  He spends hours each day composing his lines for his nightly call to a  radio sports talk show.  One night Paul and his friend happen upon his favorite Giants player – Quantrell Bishop – and follow him to a night club.  When Paul tries to get an autograph, Quantell goes ballistic and savagely beats Paul – putting him into a coma for three days.  The movie follows Paul through the aftermath of the beating.

My two cents: If you were a King of Queens fan, just think of Paul as a continuation of Spence – but even more of a loser.  I found this movie a bit depressing.  Paul is a total loser, with no urge to improve his life.  The movie has some funny moments – but I found the humor a little uncomfortable since it was based so much on Paul being so out of touch with reality.
